Did anybody watch? Once he said he was adding 30,000 more kids and asking our "friends" for more as well, I turned it off. Not enough liquor in the
house.

I was afraid he would not be able to extricate us from the mess his predecessor left us with.

So when can we leave? What are we going to accomplish by staying?

I didn't know anything about it until Kuh mentioned it. This is really, really disappointing and disheartening.

I have to agree that it sucks and I don't think it will help. But, all during the campaign he was talking about moving more troops to Afghanistan. I'm
disappointed but not surprised.

I caught probably half of it. Troops begin to leave in July 2011, I believe. It's something of a rehash of the Iraq War 'strategy' where they will
first train Afghans to provide security and then leave. Obama's very smart, very dedicated to doing the hard policy work, but man is he conservative.
He'll definitely get re-elected in 2012, the economy won't stink forever...

I don't know. I keep hearing people talking about how Obama is 2 or 3 moves ahead of everybody else, but I don't buy it. Looks to me like there is much
less to him than meets the eye.
Does he really think he is going to win over Republicans and other wingnuts with this Mr. Peepers act? Who does he think he's going to impress with idiotic stunts like this. But VP Biden has graciously translated for us confused hippies: WASHINGTON - Vice President Joe Biden said Wednesday the Obama administration's new surge-and-exit troop strategy in Afghanistan is aimed more at wringing reforms from President Hamid Karzai than mollifying a war-weary American public. So we're doing all this just to get our puppet to respond better to the hand up its ass? There's some bold change we can believe in. Pathetic. I'd be shopping for a new candidate today if I had any hope left that I would have any options other than just another PR polished empty suit. |

If it walks like a politician and talks like a politican......
He's the best of the lot, but he's by no means a miracle worker. Although his awesome way of delivering a speech would lead one to believe so. |

I think I've found my new candidate already .. and he's from professional wrestling. Put this guy in the cabinet today, or at the very least
make him press secretary. Bad guy wrestling manager, Jim Cornette:
"... the Republicans drove the country into a ditch and now they don't want to pay for the fucking tow truck!"

He's got wisdom, patience, and qualities his predecessor did not posses.
He deliberated, reflected, and struggled before he came to this decision. A goal, a target date, and hopefully an exit strategy. Now that McCrystal has 75% of what he wanted, he better get his rear in gear. I heard a pre buttal from dickie cheney, but no rebuttal from any repug in office. Strange, no? |

Yeah, I was not impressed with that
pre-buttal. I'm seriously wondering if Cheney thinks he can save the party by being cowed into running (what a patriot!) in 2012. McChrystal's own
comments make Cheney look like an idiot, which he is.
Re: Obama, he's a major politician. If you're gonna energize the Left in order to get elected, but then want to stay in office, this is how you do it. Lefties who are very smart, very measured, very predictable, allay Americans fears. As long as the economy doesn't stink, the 'devil you know' phenomenon applies and he's a big favorite to win in 2012. So all we have to do is wait 4 more years for the real Democrat to show up, great... |

Looks to me like there is much less to him than meets the eye. That might be true but hard to judge from the Afghan war. This is a case where he's starts at a 10 move disadvantage. Incidentally, I might've announced a troop increase of 30,000 if I thought I could deke the Taliban into something. (like going somewhere else) I may be wrong but he doesn't really have to send them right? |

So does Iraq now get to be "The Forgotten War?" Obviously we have to stay there forever or all that oil field division Bush/Cheney did will probably
be .. uh .. declared null and void.
